How to make Jemput jemput/banana fritters

*This was a dish that I used to eat as a kid. There was a Malay lady who used to sell this in the area that I grew up in and almost everyday, I'd buy jemput jemput from her.

The urban myth back then (as circulated by the kids - us) was that the lady used...erm...phlegm in her jemput jemputs - that's why it tasted so good! :P

I didn't care. I just wanted to eat it everyday! :)

Sadly I am unable to find this dish as easily as before. So I am resorting to making it on my own!

  1. Mash the bananas but not too finely. You'd still want to see bits and pieces of bananas inside the fritters.
  2. Mix the bananas, flour, baking powder, fine sugar & salt into a bowl.
  3. Stir until all the ingredients have been mixed thoroughly.
  4. Heat sunflower oil in saucepan/wok.
  5. Using a spoon, scoop large spoonfuls of batter into oil.
  6. Fry till golden brown on both sides.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Enjoy!

Grated coconut in jemput jemput? Hmm, I've never eaten those before! I've gotta go ask my Melayu kawan if they had ever eaten those before! Sounds interesting! :)
