Total time: 25 minutes (Prep time: 2-5 minutes, cook time: 20 minutes)

Serves 2 – 4 people depending on appetite.

Basmati rice - 1 cup rice

Water - 4.5 cups

How to make Microwave Rice


Cooking rice should be easy. White rice goes well with most Indian main dishes. Since it’s best when eaten fresh and hot, it’s a bother to put it in a pan or pressure cooker on the stove. We don’t like doing that because transferring it to a serving bowl is pretty troublesome. We found through several trials and errors that making rice in the microwave saved us time and extra utensils in the kitchen sink.

Step One: Wash rice well.

Step Two: Put it in a deep microwave friendly bowl.

Step Three: Add water to this bowl and simply put it in the microwave for 20 minutes.

Step Four: Once it is cooked fluff it with a serving spoon and let it cool for about five minutes.

We usually eat rice with some rich Indian curries like Fish Tenga. Some other dishes white rice goes excellently with: Spinach Chicken, Beef Vindaloo, Pork Vindaloo and Mutton Curry.
